Battlefords RCMP planning town hall in North Battleford

Mar 7, 2019 | 4:56 PM

The Battlefords RCMP are planning a town hall meeting next month to hear concerns and provide an update on policing.

Sgt. Jason Teniuk said the meeting will be a continuation of the public meetings that were held last year throughout the Battlefords detachment area.

This one will be an information session followed by a question and answer period. The event will be facilitated by Teniuk and Staff Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt.

“This is an opportunity for the public to meet with and ask questions of the local detachment,” Teniuk said.

The RCMP hope to provide some crime trends in the area during their presentation to keep residents up to date.

Teniuk noted there are no current plans to hold other area town hall meetings in the rural area at this time, so he is encouraging everyone who can to come to the North Battleford event.

He said the RCMP would like to hold town halls more often if enough people are interested.

“If it’s a well-attended meeting and there is a lot of interest and a lot of need for it, we could do it a couple of times a year,” Teniuk added.

He said as a result of the town hall meetings held last year, the RCMP followed up on several issues raised. He hopes the upcoming meeting will be just as productive.

The town hall will take place at the Don Ross Centre on Thurs., April 18 at 7 p.m.
