BUFC finishes indoor season, sets sights on outdoor campaign

Feb 27, 2019 | 5:00 PM

It was a great way to finish off the indoor season for Battlefords United FC.

Last weekend, the junior and senior teams participated in Provincials in Saskatoon and placed second and third respectively. Their hard-work and strong team play lead to three awards for fair play over the past three years.

The awards included showing strong sportsmanship, and the team didn’t receive a carded violation throughout the tournament. Coach Kat Huxley said it showed so much for the team’s character.

“It makes me, our club, and our community and surrounding area so proud. For athletes from our communities, it should make everyone proud,” she said.

Now that the indoor season is over, the focus now shifts to the 2019 outdoor season. Online, the registration is now open for new and returning players for the season. Early bird pricing is in effect until March 22, and players born from 2000 to 2015 are eligible to play.

Huxley says that soccer gives the kids the opportunity to get active, play in a team environment, and learn integral skills like respect on the field this season.

“It builds the ability to be a teammate,” she said. “To work as a team, an individual, and to grow friends and build a family within the community of soccer.”
