Smoke still rolled off the remains of a barn smouldering off Highway 16, 20 hours after it was destroyed by fire.

The Battleford Fire Department was called to Sunshine Stables west of Battleford at around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday night.

A steer and horse were killed and a tractor was also destroyed, Chief Larry Gabruch told battlefordsNOW.

β€œIt is always unfortunate when somebody loses possessions and animals,” Gabruch said.

A fire engine, tanker and command vehicle remained on scene for over an hour attempting to tame the flames.

No other livestock or surrounding buildings were damaged.

The cause remains under investigation.
