Silvernagle at the Scotties

Sask’s Silvernagle splits at Scotties after Day 3

Feb 18, 2019 | 8:46 PM

Robyn Silvernagle and Team Saskatchewan sit at an even 2-2 after three days of the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Sydney, N.S.

Silvernagle split both of her Monday contests by handing Casey Scheidegger and the rest of the wildcards from Lethbridge their first defeat of the tournament 8-6, before losing to Kerry Galusha and the Northwest Territories 9-4.

The match was tied after five ends at 2-2, but Silvernagle scored two in the sixth and a steal of two in the seventh to pull ahead 6-2.

But Scheidegger responded in kind, with a deuce in the eighth and a steal of a couple to tie it at 6-6 heading into the last end. Silvernagle was able to hold on with another two-ender in the 10th to pick up her second victory.

Team Saskatchewan had a big opportunity to go to 3-1, but fell to the Northwest Territories. Galusha effectively ended the game in the ninth end with a three-ender, turning what was a 6-4 game into 9-4. Silvernagle ran out of rocks in the 10th.

Team Saskatchewan consists of third Stefanie Lawton, who grew up in Prince Albert but lives in Saskatoon, second Jessie Hunkin from Alberta and Prince Albert’s Kara Thenevot throwing lead stones.

They will play three more Pool B games, Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. against Newfoundland and Labrador, and a pair of Wednesday matches against the Yukon at 7:30 a.m. and Prince Edward Island at 5:30 p.m.
