Silvernagle squeaked out by Scotties juggernaut in Jones

It was a long, three-year long road for Robyn Silvernagle to qualify for the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Sydney, N.S.

Silvernagle got to the finals three times in a row, and was able to punch her ticket to the national Scotties’ stage along with her North Battleford-based team of Stefanie Lawton, who grew up in Prince Albert but now lives in Saskatoon, Parkland County, Alta.’s Jessie Hunkin and Prince Albert’s Kara Thenevot.

The Scotties schedule maker didn’t do Silvernagle any favours, as she was welcomed to the big tournament by juggernaut Jennifer Jones, who won last year’s Tournament of Hearts in Penticton and has six national championships under her belt.

But Saskatchewan’s Silvernagle gave Jones all she could handle. Jones ended up squeaking away with a 6-5 win over Silvernagle.

Silvernagle was chasing the game but tied it up at 5-5 with a nice two-ender in the eighth. Jones closed out the match strong, blanking the ninth end to keep hold of the hammer and scoring one in the 10^th to win.

Silvernagle and the rest of Saskatchewan will play Andrea Crawford and Team New Brunswick for their lone game on Sunday, at 12:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time.
