SIGA stands out

SIGA named a top employer for second-straight year

Feb 14, 2019 | 5:06 PM

SIGA has been named a top Saskatchewan Employer for the second year in a row, as part of Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.

Organizations named to Saskatchewan’s Top Employers are those deemed to offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

Several factors are brought into consideration of those named, include everything from evaluation of the physical workplace to workplace atmosphere, health benefits, career opportunities and more.

“I’m immensely proud of our people,” SIGA President and CEO Zane Hansen said in a statement.

Standing for Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority, SIGA is a First Nation-owned and operated organization, and an equal opportunity employer made up of 64 per cent First Nation people.

Kelly Atchenum, manager of North Battleford’s Gold Eagle Casino, a member of SIGA, said the recognition of SIGA as a top employer in the province is something he and the casino staff take great pride in.

“Every day we try to instill a sense of pride, a place of belonging with our employees, and this is proof that we’re doing just that,” he said.

It has been 23 years since the Gold Eagle Casino first moved to the community. Now employing 300 staff, the Gold Eagle is currently the largest employer in the Battlefords.

Asked what makes the Gold Eagle and the SIGA organization as a whole stand out, one of the big points Atchenum keyed upon was the company’s willingness to work with their staff, promote from within and offer those that apply the opportunity to build their careers.

“We encourage our employees to advance within the company, and to gain the skills necessary to build personal success as home owners, community leaders and volunteers,” he said. “We take pride in our organization as well as our staff, and we offer more than just jobs, we offer careers.”
