HFX Wanderers sign local teenager Scott Firth to Canadian Premier League roster

HALIFAX — Teenage midfielder Scott Firth has become the first Halifax-born player to join the CPL’s HFX Wanderers FC.

The 17-year-old previously played locally for Suburban FC and the Nova Scotia provincial team.

“He shows good tactical understanding, technically he is growing day to day and his attitude on and off the field is excellent,” Wanderers coach Stephen Hart said in a statement. “He is a young player but this is his chance.

“This league is about finding that potential talent and providing the opportunity where their game can grow.”

Firth previously earned trials with two teams in Portugal, spent time in the Vancouver Whitecaps residency program and tried out for Toronto FC’s under-20 team.

He joins Canadians Zachary Sukunda, Chakib Hocine, Vincent Lamy and Elliot Simmons and Trinidad and Tobago’s Akeem Garcia, Andre Rampersad, Elton John and Jan-Michael Williams on the Wanderers’ roster.

The Halifax team is set to kick off the inaugural Canadian Premier League season in late April.
