One arrested after New Year’s Day weapons complaint
One man is in custody after he pointed a gun at police before returning to a house party he was kicked out of on New Year’s Day in the city.
Battlefords RCMP said in a media release that shortly after midnight, they received several calls reporting two men walking on 15th Ave. shooting a rifle into the air. Police responded and spoke with witnesses but could not find the people in question.
Closer to 12:30 a.m., police received another call in the same area and found two people which matched the description of the two suspects from the previous call walking into the rear of a home on the 1200 block of 111th St. More officers were called and police surrounded the yard.
When two officers entered, a man pointed a firearm at them and hid behind a female while threatening to shoot. The officers sought cover and tried to talk with the man, who soon fled the scene.
