North Stars hope to fly into action against Red Wings

Nov 3, 2018 | 2:00 PM

The Battlefords North Stars are in action for the second straight night, taking on the Weyburn Red Wings and will hope to bounce back from a tough 6-4 loss Friday night to Estevan.

Weyburn, also in action for their second of back-to-backs, will enter this evening feeling all kinds of confidence, coming off a 2-0 win over the Kindersley Klippers.

MacGregor Sinclair is expected to return to the lineup tonight for the North Stars and will suit up alongside his usual running mates in Matthias Urbanski and Ryan Gil.

Sinclair’s return should provide the North Stars with some additional spark offensively, while also giving the team a huge boost in the faceoff dot, and on both special teams’ units.

The Stars’ second line has been arguably the team’s best in each of their last two games. The trio of Owen Lamb, Braydon Buziak and Elijah Loon-Stewardson have been an absolute force as of late.

With another two goals last night, Lamb has now lit the lamp five times in his last four games. The North Battleford hometown hero’s 11 goals have already surpassed his previous career-high for a season, with the forward showing no signs of slowing down.

Elijah Loon-Stewardson has amassed 13 points over his last 10 games, while also showcasing his will to inspire and rally his group as a leader on the club, coming off a scrap in his last game that saw his effort elevate his team’s bench en route to a wild finish against the Bruins.

Brett Gammer and Regan Doig who were reunited with Austin Becker as Friday’s contest went along, gave fans an up-close look at what makes them mesh so well, with the three players generating all kinds of chances.

Quintin Loon-Stewardson is coming off his breakout game as a Star, scoring a goal, his first in the league, and adding a helper for a couple of points on the night. Loon-Stewardson will be joined by Logan Spence, who also scored last game and Tanner Robin who moves back to the centre position between the two.

On the back end, Noah Form, who returned to the lineup last game from injury to take part in his first action since Sept. 15, looked to not miss a beat in his return, logging time on the power play, penalty kill and at even-strength opposite Cody Spagrud on the team’s top pair.

Tonight, however, Tanner Scott will draw back into the lineup and move back alongside Spagrud, with whom he’s become very familiar sharing the ice with. With evident chemistry already established, this should be a natural fit for both players.

Seth Summers and Matthew Fletcher will stick together on pair two, bringing, as they always do, dependability and responsible defensive-zone intangibles, while also embodying that ability to jump up in the play and contribute to the offence using their natural instincts.

Noah Form will shift over to play alongside Ryan Granville, providing a third high-quality grouping the North Stars’ staff can lean on, and also mitigating the last-change advantage of the home team, the Red Wings. Regardless of which duo is patrolling the blue line for the Stars tonight, the opposition is sure to have no easy task infiltrating the Stars’ defensive zone.

Goaltender Joel Grzybowski will get the start again tonight, hoping to repeat his performance from his first contest against the Wings this year, back on Sept. 25, picking up the win, with a .939sv% in the process.

Fans of the North Stars can catch all the action on 1050 CJNB, with the pregame show beginning at 7:15 p.m. and puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
