Fundraiser coming soon to help Battlefords and Area Sexual Assault Centre

Oct 25, 2018 | 5:00 PM

A great night of karaoke, prizes, and a movie.

That’s guaranteed at the Capitol Theatre and FF2 Get Dressed’s 2018 Fundraiser. The night includes a wine bar, karaoke before a screening of Bohemian Rhapsody and raffle prizes on November 7 and 8 in North Battleford.

“A lot of our money comes from fundraising,” Janelle Belanger, Office Manager at the Battlefords & Area Sexual Assault Centre (BASAC), said. “We are funded by the Ministry of Justice, but just to cover basic costs. Any extra things we do like programming, or anything extra for counselling has to come out of our fundraising budget.”

Tickets went on sale for the two-day event on Monday, and tickets have been going quickly, with just over 50 tickets left over the shows.

“It’s for a great cause; it helps us to do prevention education and programming for youth and other individuals affected by trauma,” Belanger said. “It helps us in a great way in serving the public. It’s a fun time and for a great cause.”

Belanger thanked the community and the sponsors for the selection of the fundraiser. The BASAC services Battleford, North Battleford, Meadow Lake, and a 200 kilometre radius West, East and South of the Battlefords and all points North required.

“We’re super thankful for the support of the community,” she said. “Everyone’s willing to donate prizes, and I know it’s hard for business to try and accommodate everyone with that. Everyone’s been super awesome with that. Without the community support, we wouldn’t be able to do what we’re doing.”
