Two arrested after lengthy pursuit involving spike belts, Taser

One person was tasered and another was taken without incident after a lengthy police chase across the region Friday.

Maidstone RCMP said in a media release they responded to an abandoned vehicle in the Rural Municipality of Wilton at around 9:30 a.m. when an officer noticed another suspicious vehicle that was recently reported stolen with two people inside.

When the officer attempted to stop it, the driver sped off at a high speed through a construction zone. Police did not give chase for safety reasons.

A short time later, the RCMP said the vehicle was abandoned and a truck and trailer were reported stolen from the same area. Members located the trailer a short time later, but the truck was still missing.

Closer to 11 a.m., the stolen truck was seen by members of the Britannia Rural Crime Watch, with people trying to access homes and driving into farmyards north of Highway 3.

Half an hour later, officers located the two suspects on Township Road 530, before they headed north of Highway 17 towards Onion Lake and into Alberta.

The suspects drove over two spike belts, and while the vehicle’s tires were deflated, they continued to drive until there was no rubber left on the tires. At this point, police alleged the suspects fled on foot.

One person was arrested without incident while the second was tasered.

Wayne Mcgilvery, 41, and Tyrell Rowan, 21, of Frog Lake, Alta., face numerous new charges on top of previous warrants. Both will make their first court appearance in Lloydminster provincial court Tuesday.
