Annual Rockettes calendar campaign kicks off

Oct 21, 2018 | 12:35 PM

Dozens gathered at Bennigan’s for the official launch of the 2019 Rockettes calendar Friday night, an annual event aimed at promoting breast cancer awareness and raising money for cancer research.

The calendar is supported by 93.3 The Rock, a division of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group.

Nearly every model involved has been touched by cancer in some way, a key contributor to their involvement with the project.

“It is so great to see girls coming together and supporting a good cause,” Jordan Reed said, whose photo is on the month of April.

She said her grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and was appreciative of the opportunity to fund research in a unique way.

Of the shoot, Reed admitted the process was both nerve wrecking and exciting, but she was pleased with the end result.

Likewise proud to be apart of the calendar was Amanda Demkiw, who posed for the month of March. Her shoot involved strapping on skates and taking to the ice with hockey equipment. Though a chilly experience, Demkiw said she would do it again.

She was motivated to participate in the project as she has known quite a number of family members who lost their battle with cancer — though others who won — and has seen first hand how funding cancer research can pay positive dividends.

“It is great to give back and raise a little money in a fun way,” she added.

Warne Noyce has photographed the models for each of the eight years the calendar has existed. He said he is very fortunate in his photography career to do what he does and views the project as a way to give back to the community.

“It is a great way to showcase North Battleford people that want to be involved in a great cause,” he said.

This year’s theme was sport, and Noyce said creating each of the images came with their own challenge but had fun attempting to tackle the project in just a few days.

The 2019 Rockette calendars cost $20 and are available at the CJNB office and a number of locations across the city.
