Music and conversation to be had at senior’s tea
The Meota Hobby Band will be at the North Battleford Public Library Oct. 17.
A group that has frequented the establishment for years, bringing with it a throwback, easy listening sound, the Meota Hobby Band features about 30 members playing a variety of instruments. The ensemble provides a jazz/classical experience will hopes to transport their listeners back to the golden days of the 1950s and 60s.
For the second consecutive year, the library will host a senior tea after the band’s performance, as a way of providing primarily seniors with an opportunity to meet and socialize with new people while getting out and about in the community. Caroline Papadick, who organizes the event at the library, said although this will mark just the second year of the post-concert tea, it’s been a favourite event in the past.
“[Those returning] are definitely excited,” Popadick said. “It’s something that’s not so traditional to libraries, so that makes it something special, too. Often we get groups from our local senior’s home to come in and sometimes they even bus them in. They make a whole day of it.”
