Musical extravaganza coming to the Battlefords

Oct 3, 2018 | 2:00 PM

Music fans in the Battlefords are in for a red-letter weekend Oct. 12 to 14.

Three of the community’s biggest entertainment hosts have teamed up to offer a three night musical lollapalooza that is sure to excite and entice people of all ages.

Porta Bella, The Scene, and The Gog are partnering together to bring the Battlefords a musical extravaganza featuring a steady mix of alternative rock and folk music to be enjoyed by the people of the community and surrounding area.

Kicking things off Friday, Porta Bella Restaurant will host The Folk Road Show, a group made up of four international songwriters who specialize in harmony and storytelling through their music. A live roadshow taking inspiration from some of the great artists of our time, The Folk Road Show will be making their third appearance in the Battlefords, a region that has embraced their cultured outlook on life, love and the experience of the ride.

The next night, The Great Fuss, will be performing at the Kinsmen Band Hall hosted by The Scene. The Great Fuss offers plenty of fun, feel good songs that are just as easy to dance to as they are to relax and enjoy. For residents searching for a night out on the town, or those hoping to take a load off after a hard week at the office, The Great Fuss will surely provide a breath of fresh air for music lovers of any variety.

To close out the weekend on Oct. 14, Ava Wild will appear at The Gog along with guest Kasia Leigh. Wild’s folk/roots and acoustic/pop hybrid style is sure to mesh well with the Gog’s intimate setting, while her distinct ability to encapsulate a story within the confines of song should lend itself well to the comfy community-based atmosphere given off by the formerly in-use synagogue.

Alexis Christensen, who is volunteering with the event as a whole, said the musical conglomerate taking place next weekend between the three establishments came together pretty naturally, as those running each of the respective business decided that it was in the best interest of all those involved to team up and market their events as a musical bonanza of sorts.

“The fact that we are all working together to promote music and community in the Battlefords, is great to see,” she said. “I think we all want each other to do well so we’re helping to promote one-another’s events, and we’ll attend one-another’s events.”

Christensen said she has noticed the continuing growth of musical outlets in the area, whether it be homegrown musicians or people from across the country recognizing the Battlefords as a desirable place to perform.

“When you actually start to think about all the musical events and the talents that are already in the Battlefords that play or that come here, there’s a lot. I’d say this [community] is becoming quite a musical hub. There’s a lot of music happening, which is certainly great to see,” she said.

Tickets are available for each of the three concerts individually, as well as a multi-concert option for those hoping to attend multiple shows.
