Third Annual Jersey Day set for BUW on Friday

Oct 2, 2018 | 2:00 PM

It’s time to dust off those old jerseys.

Battlefords United Way (BUW) is holding its third annual jersey day as a part of their campaign month in October on Friday. All people need to do is sign up, donate the funds to the BUW and they will be entered into a draw.

Rose Silzer-Quinn, Events/Campaign Coordinator for BUW told battlefordsNOW how jersey day came about for them.

“We thought, how could we tie into people’s team spirit, whether it be community or a local team, a national team, or international team, and how can we raise a little bit of money for United Way,” she said. “We ship it out to the community and hope that workplaces will take part and challenge one another to pay $5 to wear their jersey.”

The prize for the draw is a Roughriders autographed football. Silzer-Quinn said it is a fun way to raise some money that will stay in the Battlefords.

“We’re really hoping we have a strong showing and that people will come out in droves with their jerseys and support Battlefords United Way. Every dollar that we raise remains in the community, for non-profit organizations and people that truly need our help,” she said. “(In the past, we’ve raised) close to $1,000 for jersey day, which is pretty significant when its only $5 per entry.”

“We’re really hoping we’ll exceed that this year. We’re challenging everyone out there, all the businesses, just have a little fun on Friday and sport those jerseys.”

Moving through October, the BUW has a few more events planned, including a flag raising on Oct. 9 at city hall, and on October 19, they will be hosting Coffee on the Run, where businesses can donate to have coffee delivered to their workplaces.
