City kicks in support for Chamber BBEX gala anniversary

Sep 27, 2018 | 2:25 PM

The City of North Battleford has agreed to kick in some support for the local chamber’s business awards anniversary gala coming up.

North Battleford City Hall approved making a contribution of $2,500 to the local Chamber of Commerce for the upcoming Battlefords Business Excellence Awards (BBEX) ceremony at its recent meeting.

Some members had questioned it might set a precedent in making the donation, but most thought since this marked the 25th anniversary of the awards ceremony it was a special occasion.

Mayor Ryan Bater said it was a close decision among council, with three members including himself opposed to the contribution, while four members were in favour of giving the support. Ultimately, the ayes have it.

“The vote carried, passed and the will of council has spoken,” Bater said following the meeting. “So the city will be supporting BBEX with a $2,500 sponsorship.”

The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce had earlier requested the support from the city as the finalist reception sponsor.

The Town of Battleford previously committed $750 to sponsor the decorative ice sculpture for the event.

The chamber said in its written request the sponsorship will not only include tickets for elected officials or senior staff to attend, but will also showcase the city and town as partners in the chamber’s milestone celebration of business excellence in the community.

The BBEX awards gala will take place Oct. 2 at the Gold Eagle Casino Event Centre in North Battleford.
