BBBS kids show appreciation for Airtime Award
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Battlefords, which celebrated Big Brothers Big Sisters Day Sept. 18, gave back some of the love it received recently during a visit to the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group radio station Thursday.
BBBS had previously been honoured with the Q98/CJNS-CJNB/93.3 The Rock Community Airtime Award – a $100,000 airtime package presented to a non-profit group that meets selection committee criteria.
Program coordinator Renee Sperling said the non profit organization was thrilled to be given many hours of free airtime after winning the award. As a result, it was able to find matches for 10 more of its “Littles” – kids in the program who were waiting to be connected with a Big Brother or Big Sister.
“We were able to match a combination of both Little Sisters and Little Brothers,” said Sperling of the benefit of the campaign. “To be matched with a Big … that’s invaluable to us. We can’t put a price on that for those kids.”
