Small but supportive showing for Meota’s Terry Fox Run

A little rain didn’t dissuade a troupe of Terry Fox Run participants from lacing up for the fourth annual event Sunday in Meota.

For this year’s event, supporters raised about $2,000, a little less that the roughly $3,500 made last year, although there were fewer people participating this time around. The funds support the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research.

Karl Caslor, who was involved in organizing the local event with his wife Irene, said he was impressed by how much was collected, with only nine individuals participating.

“Considering the weather, we’re happy to raise that much money,” Caslor said. “It’s going to a good cause.”

“In the first three years we’ve raised around $10,000,” he said, adding combined with the amount raised this year it will bring the total contribution up to about $12,000.

“That’s very good for the amount of people we have, and the support from the community in the immediate area,” Caslor added.

Participants came from the Meota area and Cochin mainly, and covered a 2.5 kilometre route through the village, after starting off from the Meota Community Complex.

Caslor said he was impressed to see RM of Meota Reeve Sherry Jimmy once again cover four times the distance for her run.

“She does the 10 kilometre every year — four times around the circuit,” he said. “It’s wonderful. She’s great to have on board. She’s a very good supporter of Terry Fox.”
