Creativity shines at August Art Camp

Youth in the Battlefords area can enjoy a variety of different activities this week at the Chapel Gallery’s August Art Camp.

Raven Bugler who has been working at the Chapel Gallery for five years, has organized the camp for the last couple of years. Bugler says the event is all about engaging with youth in the community.

“Basically, we’re just trying to get kids in the gallery learning about the different kinds of art there are, and want them to have fun while creating their own stuff to take home with them,” Bugler said.

The August Art Camp runs today and Tuesday, and Bugler said there is often a great turnout.

“Roughly between 10 and 15 kids sign up each year, which is actually a pretty high number. Usually, we get a little bit less, but this one seems to be quite popular.”

In addition to the August camp, the Chapel Art Gallery holds a variety of other day camps throughout the year, geared toward different mediums and styles of art.

“We try to do one a month for sure,” said Bugler. “Normally when the children have their professional development days and they are out of school, we will try to offer camps those days so that their parents have an option for them to come do some sort of learning instead of staying home or at the daycare.”

Bugler added that this summer alone has seen a few different options for kids who are out of school.

“We also try to offer a bit of a variety [of camps] throughout the summer. We did a collage art camp and a sculpture art camp in July as well,” she said.

The Gallery also offers various camps and paint nights for adults throughout the year.

“We do offer adult workshops as well, that are more advanced. We had a paint night earlier this year, in April I believe, with Bonnie McNabb.”
