First annual KCRA Rodeo a huge success

Aug 13, 2018 | 5:00 PM

The First Annual North Battleford KCRA Rodeo was successful this past weekend in the city.

The three-day event started on Friday with the Saskatchewan Barrel Racing Association Jackpot in the afternoon, and finished up on Sunday with the rodeo performance. The weekend only saw a little bit of rain, and with the weather co-operating, it made the weekend go smoothly.

Jenn Mawson, organizer with the event, told battlefordsNOW all of the positive feedback she heard in on the event.

“Really positive, everyone kept saying putting on an event is a lot of work,” she said. “They thought for the first time, there are always those learning moments, but everyone all together thought the rodeo went very smoothly, and we had great feedback for the first time.”

The event ran throughout the weekend, including a rodeo dance on Saturday night which Mawson said also ran very well. There were many participants in the rodeo, and Mawson shared some her favourite moments.

“When you see the peewees and the juniors- and we’re talking about the little kids- come up after they win a buckle, and they just have the biggest smiles on their face,” she said. “You get to shake their hand and take a picture with them; you just get to see the excitement on their face. They’re just so pumped about it.”

The organizers are excited to now turn their focus to next year, and try to make the 2019 version of the rodeo into an even bigger event that their first year.

There was 17 highpoint buckles given out, one for each event and three all arounds, one peewee, one junior and one open. A list of all of the winners of the rodeo can be seen on the KCRA Rodeo’s Facebook page.
