The Battlefords Best of the Best (BOB) award winners for 2018 have now been announced to recognize local people, businesses and non profits groups and organizations that give their best in what they do.

Some of the winners include the Western Development Museum in North Battleford which received the Best Museum Award.

“We’re very honoured,” manager Joyce Smith said. “It’s really nice to know that the community’s behind us and they appreciate what we’re doing.”

This is the second year the WDM N.B. received the BOB award.

Smith said the museum puts in a great effort into making sure the attraction is accessible, welcoming, informative and engaging to its visitors.

“We are the provincial museum of human history, so we have four branches across the province other than just ourselves,” she added. “It takes a huge amount of work to tell the story of our pioneers right up to present day.”

Some of the other distinguished winners from a list of 200 include dedicated semi-retired school teacher and long-time volunteer Gene Aulinger who was chosen for the 2018 Best Citizen Award.

Nominations were held from May 21 to June 10, and voting followed from June 18 to July 8. Now that the winners have been announced there will be a special awards celebration coming up on Sept. 19, with more details to come.

Kelly Bitner, sales manager with battlefordsNOW and host of the Best of the Best Awards, said he is pleased to see the awards competition, now in its second year, is such a success.

“I think it’s really exciting,” he said, adding that the awards give people in the community an opportunity to be recognized for their work.

“It’s a really positive thing for a community to get people voting for who they think are doing a great job,” Bitner said.

He added the award recipients are selected by the people, and that’s what gives these awards value.

“It’s the community that’s choosing the winners,” Bitner said.
