Jul 25, 2018 | 9:42 AM

UPDATE: The RCMP have identified the body found on Highway 4, and said it may be a case of hit-and-run.

The deceased was identified as Merle Curley, a 33-year-old resident of Mosquito First Nation. RCMP said Curley’s family agreed to release his name in the hope someone will come forward with new information.

The RCMP said investigators believe Curley was struck by a vehicle which did not remain at the scene.

RCMP are investigating after a motorist discovered a body early Wednesday morning on Highway 4 just south of Battleford.

According to police, the motorist discovered the deceased male shortly after 4 a.m. RCMP said officers are currently on the scene investigating, and traffic has been detoured around the scene in both directions. The detours are expected to be in place for several hours, RCMP said, and motorists were asked to avoid the area if possible.

Anyone with information on the incident was asked to contact Battlefords RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
