Unity’s Scherr among 42 Sask-born players taken in WHL bantam draft
Unity native Garin Scherr and Battlefords AAA Stars defenceman Eric Robbie were among 42 Saskatchewan-born players selected in Thursday’s Western Hockey League bantam draft.
Scherr and Robbie were teammates this past season, suiting up for the West Central Wheat Kings bantam AA team that won the league championship.
Scherr, listed at 6’2″, 185 lbs., was selected with the 87th overall pick in the fourth round by the Saskatoon Blades. He put up 24 points from the back end in 30 regular-season games with the Wheat Kings this year. Robbie, listed at 6’0″, 190 lbs., was selected with the 163rd overall pick in the eighth round by the Prince Albert Raiders. The Rosetown native registered 40 points in 31 regular-season games with the Wheat Kings.
Meadow Lake native Keenan Allan was also selected in the draft, taken by the Moose Jaw Warriors in the eighth round, 172nd overall.
