BVC Impact win gold at provincials; BVC Power win silver

Apr 30, 2018 | 5:00 PM

After a seventh-place finish at the 15-U women’s provincials last year for the Battlefords Volleyball Club (BVC) Impact, the team was looking to build on its stellar 2018 season at this year’s provincials this past weekend.

Leading up to the tournament, the Impact had perhaps the strongest resume of any club, as they won gold at two of the three Sask Cups that took place and won bronze at the third.

That pattern of success in 2018 did indeed continue at provincials in Saskatoon, as the Impact won provincial gold in tier-1 in the 16-U women’s division, after taking down the Sask Stealth in straight sets 25-18, 25-18.

The Impact wasn’t the only team from BVC to come home from provincials with some hardware.

BVC Power (purple) won silver in tier-1 in the 14-U men’s division, falling to the Rouleau Rebels in a nail-biting gold medal game in three sets, 20-25, 25-23, 16-18.

Both the Impact and Power finished their round robins in second place in their division and then won two matches to get to the gold medal game. The Impact took down Topper en Fuego and HVC en route to their final, while BVC Power took down Moose Jaw TCVC and the Yorkton Bongos en route to their final match.

Last weekend, two other BVC clubs won medals as well. The 16-U boys BVC Thunder took home silver in tier-2, after falling 20-25, 20-25 to RVC White in the tier-2 gold medal game, while the 14-U girls BVC Heat won bronze in tier-1, topping the S.E. Vipers 20-25, 25-15, 15-8 in the third-place game.

BVC Power (black) also competed in tier-1 in the U-14 men’s division over the weekend, but went 0-3 in the round robin and then lost to the eventual champion Rouleau Rebels in their first playoff match 18-25, 7-25.

Two other BVC teams took part in division-2 in the 14-U men’s division, finishing in eighth and ninth place.
