Mintos defeat AAA Stars 7-3 at Civic Centre

The AAA Battlefords Stars fell behind early in last night’s contest against the Prince Albert Mintos and never recuperated throughout the evening.

Mintos forward Austin Lamotte had a pair of goals and an assist as the Prince Albert Mintos defeated the Battlefords Stars 7-3 Tuesday in Midget AAA hockey action at the Civic Centre.

Prince Albert led 2-0 after one-period and 5-2 after 40-minutes of play. The Mintos scored three power play goals in six opportunities while the Stars were 0-3 with the man advantage.

Carter Woodside turned aside 20 of the 23 shots he faced for his 11th win in 13 starts this season, while Battlefords netminder Carter Serhyenko faced 38 shots in total, including 20 in the first period.

Adam Beckman had a pair of goals to lead the Stars while Matthew Flodell chipped in with his seventh goal of the season.

The win moves Prince Albert (27-21-4-2) into sole position of third place in the standings with 44 points trailing only Notre Dame (47) and Regina (47) by three points, with the Tisdale Trojans just two points back with 42 points.

The loss is the Stars fifth in a row and drops their record to 11-15 – good for eighth overall in the SMAAAHL.

The Stars travel to the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Beardy’s Blackhawks.
