New North West College president and CEO search begins

Dec 3, 2017 | 11:25 AM

North West College is beginning a Canada wide search for its new president and CEO after Tavia Laliberte formally announced her resignation effective in February.

Laliberte held the position since Oct. 2013 and has decided to move on. She has not announced what or where her new position is.

Acting chair Kent Hodgson says the search for a replacement will start soon.

“We will get a recruitment company to come in and help with finding a new President and CEO,” Hodgson said. “We won’t go worldwide, but we will definitely be looking Canada wide.”

The college will not have a replacement by Feb. 9, which is the date Laliberte will officially leave her position, according to Hodgson. It is still too early to say who the interim president and CEO will be but Hodgson said the board is “working as we speak” to figure it out.

According to Hodgson, Laliberte will help with the transition so everything remains business as usual after she leaves.

“Everything will go very smoothly. I am very confident about that. Students will not feel any change or disruption of any kind … The board and the college staff have been adamant about being ready for this situation. We have a very up to date and modern succession plan,” he explained.

As for Laliberte, Hodgson had nothing but high praise for what she has done during her tenure. He said she made a huge impact on partnering with industries to provide students hands-on, real-world experience and increase their chance of being hired directly out of college.
