Sobeys Liquor opening in Battleford next month

Oct 5, 2017 | 5:00 PM

The new Sobeys Liquor store is close to completion and should be ready to open in Battleford next month.

The project developer Dean Kupchanko, also the Battleford Town Square president, said the exterior of the Sobeys establishment at one end of the mini mall building, known as Battleford Crossing, is about 99 per cent done.

“It’s getting very close,” he said. “The site is paved. The signage is up.”

Sobeys Liquor, which is leasing the space, took possession on Sept 11 and will be the only one in the area.

Kupchanko said while the company hasn’t confirmed an opening date yet, he expects it will be open for business in November.

Sobeys is located at the south end of the building, occupying 4,200 sq. ft. of the 6,600 sq. ft. site. It’s situated across the street from the Co-op gas bar.

“It’s going to be great,” said Kupchanko. “There is more than enough parking. It makes it very accessible.”

There is also space available for another new tenant at the north-end 2,400 sq. ft. bay of the building.

Kupchanko said the vacant site would be suitable for a restaurant since a drive-through is incorporated into the building design.

“Everything is on schedule and on budget,” said Kupchanko. “We’re very pleased with that.”
