Sask Baseball provincial dates set

Jul 5, 2017 | 2:00 PM

For some Battlefords baseball clubs, provincials are quickly approaching. For others, league playoffs are top of mind.

Either way, the dates have been set for all six divisions, from mosquito, right up to senior.

The Battlefords bantam AA Beavers and mosquito AA Beavers will know their fate sooner than anyone else, as they will both travel down south in less than two weeks time. The bantams, who went 8-4-1 in a Saskatoon league this season and are currently waiting their next playoff opponent, will play in Tier III in Regina on the July 14 weekend in a 10-team division. The mosquito team will play in Tier I in Swift Current the same weekend in a seven-team division.

The following weekend will see a glut of Beavers clubs swinging for the fences.

The midget AA Beavers, coming off a tough 1-18 season, will play in a 10-team Tier III division in Saskatoon on the July 21 weekend.

Two AA peewee teams will also travel to different destinations that same weekend for provincials. One Beavers team, based out of North Battleford, will compete in Tier II in Regina in a eight-team division, while the other Beavers team, based out of Meota, will play in Tier III in Lloydminster and battle it out with seven other clubs.

There will also be a junior North Battleford Beavers team at provincials. They will compete July 21-23 in Regina in the one AAA division with six other teams. As many as eight Battlefords Trappers players are on this team. The Trappers will not be able to qualify for the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League playoffs thanks to their current 3-8 record.

The final Beavers team that will be bringing out their bats for provincials this summer is the senior North Battleford Beavers club, who wraps up their NSRBL season this Thursday with a road game against Mervin. That game will determine if they qualify for the playoffs or not. The Beavers will be in Standard Hill for provincials in Tier IV from Aug. 11-13. Only six teams are in that division.
