Master provincial curling championships set for this week

Mar 8, 2017 | 1:00 PM

The master men’s and women’s provincial championships take place this week, and the Twin Rivers Curling Club will have one representative in each.

Kay Montgomery and her North Battleford rink will compete in the master women’s provincials in Birch Hills, while Wayne Schieble and his North Battleford rink will compete in the master men’s provincials in Shellbrook. Both championships will run from March 8-12.

On the women’s side, Montgomery will be curling alongside third Cheryl Cey, second Joanne Wood, and lead Candace Brown.

On the men’s side, Schieble is joined by third Brian Welford, second Lorne Voinorosky, and lead Henry Welford.

Team Montgomery opens up their tournament on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with a game against Anita Ford of Regina.

Last year, Saskatoon’s Team Kopach defeated Christopher Lake’s Team Swiderski to win the master women’s provincials.

Team Schieble will kick-off their 2017 master men’s provincials with a game against Prince Albert’s Richard Graham on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Saskatoon’s Team Hritzuk claimed the men’s title over Team Normand of Regina last year.

There are 12 teams in the master men’s championships and 10 in the women’s. Both tournaments will use a two pool, round-robin with a page playoff.
