Stubborn flames keep firefighters busy in N.B.

North Battleford firefighters had their hands full with a stubborn house fire on the 1100 block of 104 St. early on Saturday morning.

According to Fire Chief Albert Headrick, the emergency call came in at approximately 1:36 a.m. on Saturday and when crews arrived the house was fully engulfed.

“The single-storey structure sustained extensive damage,” Headrick said. ”It took 18 firefighters and three pumpers nine hours to bring the blaze under control.”

The age of the dwelling was the main reason why it took first responders so long to fight the blaze.
