Micro-brewery proposed for old armory building

One of the newest trends across Canada is micro-breweries and investors with North Battleford ties are looking to be part of that growing industry.

A plan by investors to turn the 100-year-old armory building into a craft brewery and restaurant was presented to council at Monday night’s meeting. The building however, needs to be rezoned before the transformation could begin.

Council passed a resolution for administration to amend a bylaw so the project can get underway. The bylaw will be presented at a future meeting as well as a public notice period where information will be released about the potential business.

The names of the investors were not made public however; there are apparent ties to the Battlefords.

According to Jennifer Niesink, the city’s director of planning and development, the investors plan on doing a restoration project to the historical building at 702 102 St. to highlight North Battleford’s heritage.

Niesink added this location is perfect for a project like this as the land has no direct neighbors and said it is always a positive when a new business moves into a vacant building.

Council as a whole was enthusiastic about the idea of saving a historical building.
