United Way relaunching Comedy Night

Feb 3, 2017 | 9:00 AM

Whether you hail from the Emerald Isle or not, on St. Patrick’s Day; everyone can lay claim to being a wee bit Irish.

Even though St. Patrick’s Day is over a month away, the board of directors of the Battlefords United Way is inviting everyone to the “Shamrockin’ Comedy Night” on Friday, Mar. 17, at the Don Ross Centre.

Board chair Duane LaFreniere, told battlefordsNOW this event is actually a relaunch of the United Way’s Comedy Night which was successful a few years back.

“We used to do a comedy night which featured two comedians a few years ago, which went over great, so when decided to relaunch the event. We thought it would be great to do a hybrid. We will mix it up a bit with a comedian to start, then follow it up with great music to make it an entertaining night,” said LaFreniere.

Popular funny man Ken Valgardson will bring his unique brand of humour to the stage. A 30-year veteran of comedy, Valgardson has been a regular on the Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Tour and headlined all over the world.

“I had actually brought Ken (Valgardson) in to perform at our Christmas party this year,” LaFreniere remembered. “I didn’t know what to expect, but he had us in stitches the entire night and everyone loved him.”

Stereo Playground will follow Valgardson to keep the party going, bringing a high-energy sound and a repertoire everyone will enjoy.

Tickets are $25 each in advance or $30 at the door. The event will also feature green beer, door prize draws and a 50/50 draw.

As was the case at Christmas with Operation Red Nose “The Leprechaun Lift” will also be available to get patrons home safely following festivities.

Tickets can purchased in advance by contacting any member of the United Way Board or by calling the office at 306-445-1717.
