The North Battleford Library has seen its membership numbers grow substantially in the past year, thanks to new services and an increase of computers.

In a report to city council on Jan, 23 North Battleford Library over 600 adults and 150 youth became new members of the library last year. The report also noted computer use was up 78 per cent at the library from the same timeframe as last year.

Eleanor Crumblehulme, director of Lakeland Library region, points to the fact that the library has been able to change with the times and offer services that are in demand.

“This region is a sizeable area mostly rural and while we are a little bit behind the trend of usage of electronic materials we are still seeing significant growth elsewhere,” says Crumblehulme.

“The library has gone from six computers to nine computers in North Battleford,” added Crumblehulme. “Many people in our area do not have a computer or access to the Internet at home or sometimes both. So our branch provides that important function in helping bridge that digital divide.”

The North Battleford Library also provides support for those who need help navigating the Internet, as well as setting up email accounts and more.

“We still have many people use the actual physical items like books and games and we have really made it a priority to improve the quality of our collection. However offering the extra services we do and new programs is why we see those impressive numbers,” Crumblehulme added.
