Local artists get their time to shine

“It’s an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work in our beautiful civic gallery; the Chapel Gallery,” Garven said. “We try and have one or two each year. We usually get a really good turn out because there’s an awful lot of talented artists in the Battlefords and they’re working quietly and diligently at home on their art form and craft. It’s an opportunity to highlight the best.”

While only gallery members were welcome to submit work, Garven said that anyone is welcome and encouraged to sign up for a gallery membership.   

Around 30 to 35 pieces from all types of mediums will be displayed, possibly also including poetry pieces.

When it comes down to it, Garven said this is for the artists, to help them grow and give them exposure.

“Artists tend to work in isolation, out of choice and it’s just the way it is. This is a great opportunity for an artist to gain some confidence, show people their finished work, and get constructive feedback and learn about other opportunities,” she said. “They learn from each other, artists, and I think the chance to share tips and tricks and sources and where to get things and different methods of doing things really helps artist grow their practice in Saskatchewan.”

The local art will be for sale during the exhibition for those wishing to purchase an original piece.

The work is expected to be on display from Jan. 14 to Feb. 26 at the Chapel Gallery.
