Gushue wins Meridian Canadian Open and seventh grand slam
Brad Gushue hadn’t shot under 90 per cent all tournament and he didn’t slow down in the finals.
Niklas Edin from Sweden started the finals with the hammer and drew for one in the first to take the early lead. Gushue answered in the second, making an amazing hit and roll on the hammer to make four and take a commanding 4-1 lead.
Edin was between a rock and a hard place on his hammer throw in the third end. Gushue was sitting two and they were well protected. Edin pulled off a phenomenal hit and roll to get his stone snug to the button to pick up one point and stay in the game.
The fourth end was played safe with Edin’s team clearing the house each throw, forcing Gushue to take one point and 5-2 lead into the fifth end. Gushue put Edin to the test again as he was sitting three with one hidden as Edin released his hammer throw. Edin hit a bump and run, barely knocking Gushue’s rock, getting closer to the button by a hair to pick up one and pull to within two points.
