Laycock advances to roars from the home crowd
The crowd inside the Civic Centre looked on anxiously as Steven Laycock released the last stone in the final end before erupting into an ear piercing roar. With one arm up in the air he knew his team had advanced to the playoffs and so did the audience. The win makes Laycock the only Saskatchewan team left in the tournament.
“We had some momentum, we had a good game last night so we let that carry us through,” Laycock said. “We had some real testers in the morning game today but we came out pretty solid tonight and played probably the best game of the event for sure.”
After dropping the first two games, Laycock rallied and ran the table, winning his remaining three games in Group C. The last win was a 7-3 victory over Edmonton’s Charley Thomas. The hard road Laycock has been travelling doesn’t get any easier though, as he drew top ranked Team Gushue in the quarter finals at noon on Saturday.
