Meota combining hockey and fundraising efforts

Dec 21, 2016 | 5:00 AM

There will be more than bragging rights on the line this Friday night as the Meota Combines host the Battleford Beaver Blues at the Civic Centre in SPHL action. The Combines trail the Blues by two points in the overall league standings so a victory is important to the team. However the game is also big for another reason.

The Combines have announced that 25 per cent of all proceeds from the game will be donated to the Empty Stocking Fund.

Meota Combines manager Aaron Cadrin said the team has been looking for a way to give back to the community for a while and saw the Empty Stocking Fund as a great fit.

“We have roughly 40 to 50 sponsors that without them there would be no Combines franchise so we definitely wanted to do something for the community,” Cadrin said. “We chose the Empty Stocking Fund because I think everyone in the community sees the value of this organization.”

Game time is 7:30 p.m. and following the contest, a dance will be held in the Hot Stove Lounge upstairs with door prizes and pizza.

“We have a DJ hired to provide entertainment and being Friday night with everyone coming home for the holidays we hope can get a huge crowd to cheer on the teams and support the Empty Stocking Fund.” Cadrin said.
