Several items on council agenda tonight

Nov 28, 2016 | 11:00 AM

There are several items on the list for tonight’s city council meeting.

North Battleford’s city council will sign the new collective agreement for the Firefighters Association during the meeting tonight, Nov. 28.

The agreement includes an 8.5 per cent budget increase over the next three years. According to Fire Chief Albert Headrick, negotiations went smoothly and signing is usual protocol.

Also at council tonight the class action settlement over the 2001 cryptosporidium incident will be acknowledged. In the spring of 2001 the cryptosporidium parasite contaminated the tap water of North Battleford, causing thousands of people to fall ill. There were no deaths caused by the incident, but the city was under a boiling water advisory for an extended period of time.

Council will also see an application from CN rail to build a new telecommunications tower. If approved, it will be located within the property of 75 Railway Ave. E. The tower will be 150 feet tall and is meant to support operations and safety communication for the railway.
