Battleford’s mayor has house vandalized before Halloween

Oct 31, 2016 | 2:00 PM

The night before Halloween, Battleford’s newly elected mayor says he was spooked when his son told him their home’s yard was wrecked.

According to Ames Leslie, three or so individuals were on their lawn at roughly 11:30 p.m., smashing pumpkins, stealing displays and destroying Halloween decorations.

By the time they phoned the police and went outside, all Leslie said he saw were tail lights.

“I followed the trail of the smashed pumpkins and basically got most of the items back except for a couple because they were scattered down the road for eight to 10 blocks,” he said.

“It’s a little unfortunate, but I definitely have to commend the RCMP because my wife had phoned and they were there within minutes,” he said. “Unfortunately they didn’t catch the person but they were out on patrol for most of the night so hopefully it curbed anyone else from being hit last night.”

Leslie said the decorations are back up, just in time for trick-or-treating, thanks to his son.

“He re-built it all this morning. I don’t think he slept much, the poor boy,” he said.

A spokesperson for Battlefords RCMP was not available for comment.
