Battleford candidate hopes to promote historical town

Oct 24, 2016 | 7:34 AM

Judy Pruden has wanted to run for council for years but a busy work schedule always kept her out of the political arena. Now that she’s working part time, she decided to throw her hat into the ring.

“I have strong roots in Battleford and I believe in the preservation of the history. I’m interested in promoting the town that way, in the historical factor,” Pruden said. “I just thought this was the perfect time to go ahead and put my name in.”

Pruden was born and raised in the Town of Battleford, she raised her children here who are now raising their own families in town, as well.

She is currently working as a confidential secretary at Prairie North Health Region. In the past she worked in the accounting department at a local soft drink company, for the RCMP detachment taking complaints, doing administrative work and monitoring the budget, as well as for a doctor in North Battleford.

Pruden said she doesn’t have axes to grind with the town, but instead wants to bring transparency and accountability to council.

“I want to see the [town’s] website expanded to include the minutes of the meetings as well as all the bylaws so people can research what’s going on on their own time,” she said.

Election day is Oct. 26 at the Alex Dillabough Centre.
