Communities across northwest Sask. head to polls Oct. 26

Towns, cities, rural municipalities and school boards are holding elections in less than two weeks. Some communities in Saskatchewan’s northwest won’t be having elections however as council was elected via acclamation.

One of those communities is Dorintosh. The entire village council, Mayor Derek Osbourne and Councillors Sandra Bannister and Brad Osbourne will lead the community for the next four years.

Elsewhere, Loon Lake is having a full election with two candidates vying for mayor and six residents seeking councillor chairs.

Incumbent Mayor Larry Heon is seeking re-election against John Belgard. Oga Janzen, Murna Mullinger, Les Seiben, Jamie Roy, Ron Roy and Judie Voluck are seeking election to council positions.

Residents of Loon Lake can cast ballots from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the Legion Hall.

Southeast of Meadow Lake, St. Walburg will have the same mayor in place after George Prudat was acclaimed following the Sept. 21 nomination deadline. Acclaimed to council is Murad Camgoz, Claude Lalonde, Walter Looshorn, Gary Nedelec and Robert Veenstra. Seeking election for the final councillor chair are Jamie Hallett, Travis Peterson and Bobby Domes.

From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, St. Walburg residents can cast ballots at the Town Council Chambers.

Another community with an acclaimed mayor is Edam. Larry McDaid will lead the small town for another four years.

Council however, will have an election to select four councillors. Vying for a seat are Bob Clark, Kyle Esquirol, Sheila Orchison, Ian Weber, Tyler Weber and Barry Weitzel.

Ballots can be cast from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Edam Seniors Centre on Main St.
