City waiting on parts for aquatic centre repairs

Jul 6, 2016 | 2:00 PM

It could be days, or longer, before the Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre is fully operational again.

The city of North Battleford announced Tuesday, July 5 the waterslides, lazy river and wave pool were shut down due to a mechanical problem. The lane pool, hot tub, and steam room were not affected.

Seton Winterholt, facilities manager, said Wednesday an impeller, or rotor, failed in a main pump that circulates water through a filtration system. Workers are awaiting the parts to repair it.

“Parts are on order, and they have to be shipped from the United States. Once they arrive we will install them,” he said. He couldn’t give a specific time frame, explaining it all depends on the shipment.

“We are hoping that it is here as soon as possible. But right now we are waiting on the supplier for an ETA,” he said. “We’re hoping it’s days, but the reality is that it could be longer than that.”

The city said there would be no leisure swim Wednesday due to a combination of the partial shutdown and the 55+ Provincial Games taking place in the Battlefords.

“We’ve done our best to accommodate the leisure swims and the lessons that we have booked, and I know that the programming folks are doing everything they can to be as accommodating as possible,” Winterholt said.
