Inaugural father daughter gala a success

Mar 13, 2016 | 8:06 AM

Fathers brought their daughters to the ball room at the Tropical Inn Friday March. 11 for the first ever Father Daughter Gala.

“What does the community need?” asked Bryan Nylander, president of the Rotary Club which put on the event. “Well maybe it needs something to celebrate the relationships between fathers and daughters.”

Daughters, from ages four to 44, wore their prettiest dresses while their dads wore their nicest suits for a formal dinner. There were alcoholic beverages for the adults and virgins cocktails for the little ones.

It was also a fundraiser for the Rotary Club with a portion going towards the United Way. The silent auctions had items for both dads and their daughters including season’s tickets to the North Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs and Justin Bieber.

“We’ve had about 40 businesses contribute to make this even possible,” Nylander said. The dance exceeded the $10,000 goal.

All 180 tickets were purchased days before the event and Nylander received calls for about 40 more tickets after they sold out. They will be holding it again next year. Even though he is considering moving it to a bigger location, Nylander urged people to buy tickets sooner so they don’t miss out.
