La Loche schools see upgraded security

New security measures have been implemented in La Loche as students return to school.

An RCMP Resource Officer (SRO) started at Dene High School on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Three guards will be posted at Ducharme Elementary and Dene High School through a local security company.

Emergency drills are scheduled to happen on an annual basis.

With the security measures in place students in La Loche schools head back to classes with an extra layer of security.

Ducharme Elementary students will be the first to return to the classroom on Feb. 24. Middle year and high school students will register for classed on Feb. 25, and return to classes on Feb. 26.

Acting mayor Kevin Janvier will host a breakfast for staff and students before classes resume at Dene High School

The “Let’s Keep Our High School” walk, organized by the La Loche community, starts at 1 p.m. on Feb. 24.
