The 2016-17 Battlefords North Stars are officially in a league of their own, after winning their 45th game of the season on Wednesday night to set a new franchise record.

North Stars defenceman Kendall Fransoo and goaltender Taryn Kotchorek are on this year’s SJHL awards ballot, as the league released the list of nominees up for five awards this past weekend.

It was the Coby Downs show on Saturday night at the Civic Centre, as the North Stars centre netted his second career hat-trick to lift the home side to their 44th win of the season.

North Stars forward Connor Logan (white, 16), notched the game-winning-goal on Friday night against the Melfort Mustangs to ensure the North Stars locked up first place for good this season. The final score was 2-1.

A slow start wasn't enough to prevent the Battlefords North Stars from locking up the top spot in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League regular season, as they rebounded to beat Melfort 2-1 on Friday night.

Kevin Hasselberg was relieved of his coaching duties by the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League on Monday, after compiling a 15-15-6 record in his first 36 games with the club.
