Weekly Provincial Highway Construction Update

People travelling this Labour Day weekend are reminded to have a weekend game plan – slow to 60 km/hr when entering work zones to safely reach your travel goal.

“Whether you’re driving to the Labour Day Classic in Regina, heading to the cabin or travelling to see loved ones, plan your route with work zones, ongoing construction and patience in mind,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said.  “That way, you will arrive at your destination in plenty of time and do your part to protect everyone working to improve Saskatchewan’s highways.”

People heading to the Saskatchewan Roughriders game on Sunday, September 4 should take note of traffic delays as they make their way to Regina via provincial highways.

Ongoing construction locations near the Queen City include: Highway 1 east between Regina and Balgonie, Highway 1 west near Pinkie Road, and Highway 11 north to Saskatoon.  Work is also in progress on Highway 11 near Davidson between Regina and Saskatoon, and Highway 1 near Belle Plaine between Regina and Moose Jaw.

New projects also scheduled to be underway include: a bridge replacement on Highway 18 near Ferland and seal coating on Highway 21 near Paradise Hill.  Seal coating projects, which extends the life of highways, can have long work zones with 60 km/hr signs without workers present.  That’s because it allows crews to complete the work quickly, while the slower speed is needed to let the seal coat properly cure and to prevent vehicle damage caused by loose stones used in the process.
