PA National Park is Ready for May Long Weekend

May 16, 2016 | 8:24 AM

The Victoria Day Long Weekend is nearly upon us and Prince Albert National Park is ready! Park updates are provided below. Please feel free to share messages and the attached pictures on your webpage and social media channels as well as with colleagues and family.

All campgrounds will be opening Friday, May 20. Reservations can be made for tent or trailer camping in Beaver Glen (electric sites) or RV camping in Red Deer (full service) by visiting reservation.pc.gc.ca or calling 1-877-737-3783.

In order to maintain a family friendly environment all campgrounds except Red Deer will be liquor free from Friday, May 20 until the morning of Tuesday, May 24.

The fishing season in PANP opens Saturday May 21. National park fishing licenses are required and can be purchased from the Visitor Centre in Waskesiu or the Waskesiu Marina.

Tipi Raising Ceremony on Saturday May 21st 1:00pm-3:00pm. Enjoy tipi teachings from a Cree Elder and roast your own bannock. Meet on the hill near the Visitor Centre (across from the main beach).

Trails are in great shape for hiking. Select trails allow biking or horseback riding. For the most up to date trail conditions visit pc.gc.ca/princealbert or call the Visitor Centre at (306) 663-4522.

Ice is off the lake. While it is still cold for swimming, all lakes are free of ice and are ready for paddlers and motorboats alike. For excursion planning contact the Visitor Centre. Don’t have a boat? The Waskesiu Marina & Adventure Centre and Grey Owl Centre both offer watercraft rentals. Be sure to make a trip plan and take the necessary safety precautions.

Opportunities for wildlife watching are great at this time of year. Days are longer and wildlife is active, especially in the mornings and evenings. Exercise caution around wildlife.

The Visitor Centre is OPEN DAILY and can answer any questions: (306) 663-4522 OR panp.info@pc.gc.ca
