Asthma and Allergy Solutions
There is no hiding the rise on asthma increases in Canada these days. It has increased 160% from 1980-1994. Why is there such a large increase?
One factor seems to be our modern lifestyle, complete with fast food and fast cars. We have created a polluted world not only outside, but in our household as well. Our ancestors did not load themselves with super-size anything. We eat too much sugar, too much fat, too much period. The more we venture from our evolutionary diet the more difficult it is for our bodies to function properly.
Asthma is a chronic inflammation condition, an asthmatic episode. The muscle in the walls of the bronchi go into spasm and the cells that line the airways become inflamed and secretes mucus into the air spaces. This causes it to narrow. As a result breathing becomes much more difficult. Recurring asthma attacks promote abnormal thickening and hardening of air passages.
People with asthma need to always be prepared so they can avoid their triggers, for most people that involves an inhaler prescribed by a physician. The commonly used inhalers are beta – adrenergic stimulators that relax bronchial smooth muscle, thereby mechanically opening the airway. This is designed for emergency use only…they are not effective in reducing the underlying inflammation. Over use of inhalers could have aggravating side effects of increased heart rate and blood pressure, headaches, and blurred vision. Steroids used for asthma can cause diabetes, glaucoma, obesity, liver damage, abnormal cholesterol levels and heart disease.
