Close call for RCMP pursuing alleged stolen taxi near Delmas

It was a close call for police pursuing a stolen taxi near Delmas last week when shots fired hit the cruiser's windshield.

Maidstone RCMP responded to the incident with the assistance of Battlefords RCMP and the local police dog services.  

Firefighters were on the scene of a blaze at the city's waste management facility near Wearing Rd. Friday morning. The landfill was closed to the public in the morning but was set to reopen at 12 p.m. after the fire was put out.

Town sees collisions up, property offences down in police report

Battlefords RCMP reported an overall slight increase in calls for service when it gave its report at the Town of Battleford's council meeting recently, although the town did see decreases in a number of categories.

Battlefords RCMP met with local officials and stakeholders Wednesday to learn more about the law-enforcement needs in the region as part of the RCMP's annual performance planning work.

Town of Battleford approves cannabis zoning bylaw

The Town of Battleford approved a zoning amendment bylaw for any future potential cannabis retail outlets and grow operations at its meeting Monday.

No one objected at a public hearing before council carried second and third reading of the bylaw.

The city will host an open house April 18 at St. Mary School where it will provide information about its many initiatives to improve community safety, including neighbourhood block parties and mural projects.

The City of North Battleford hopes to make the community safer by helping residents get to know their neighbours better. To make it easier, it is trimming off some of the cost for two popular projects — block parties and street murals.
