2018 Riders season begins tonight on CJNB/CJNS

Jun 15, 2018 | 12:00 PM

It’s a day Riders Nation has had circled on their calendar since Nov. 19, when the Toronto Argonauts defeated the Roughriders 25-21 on their way to capturing the 105th Grey Cup.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will host the Argos in the season opener for both teams tonight at Mosaic Stadium.

1050 CJNB and 102.3 CJNS in Meadow Lake will once again be broadcasting each and every Rider game throughout the 2018 regular season and the playoffs.

“This year there is a lot of optimism within Rider Nation,” CJNB morning show host Grant Schutte said. “We made some great off-season acquisitions to bolster the offence and I think we have what it takes to go all the way to the Grey Cup.”

Schutte predicted the Riders will finish the regular season with a 12-6 record.

Reporter Brady Lang, of battlefordsNOW, said he also feels the Riders will finish with double digits in the win column.

“I expect the Riders to finish with an 11-7 record,” Lang said. “Edmonton should be the team to beat in the West and we will be a close second in the division.”

Darian Rae of CJNB said she doesn’t know how the Green and White will fare this year and kept her prediction to a conservative 10-8.

“There are definitely some questions about the quarterbacks this year, so that has me concerned,” she said. “But, there is a huge upside to having two very mobile QBs.”

Tonight’s game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Argonauts begins on CJNB and CJNS with the pre-game show at 4 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
